We have launched the ZBT Research School with a kick-off event in November 2023. This marked the start of the weekly seminar series. Other activities and events are planned to start in 2024. We would like to know how you feel about some ideas we would like to propose. We are also eager to learn about other ideas which you might want to contribute.
Please rate the different ideas from 0 (not very interesting) to 10 (extremely interesting).
The idea is to have a retreat of at least 2 days, i.e. 1 over night stay, somewhere outside of Duisburg. The organizing committee is led by the school coordinator but also consist of about 3 research fellows (ideally PhD candidates in their second or third year). They design the retreat outline which might be filled with talks, workshops, leisure activities and more. This could also provide an oppurtunity to award members (see some suggestions below).
Starting in fall 2024, the school could organize a full-day symposium. The organizing committee is led by the school coordinator but also consists of about 3 research fellows (ideally PhD candidates in their second or third year). They will design the program which might include 1-2 invited keynote speakers, several sessions with short talks from research school members, a poster session, award session and reception.
In case we can organize funding, we might award the best paper of the year. The selection could be carried out through a committee and/or the research school adviosry board. The author(s) of the selected paper(s) might receive a monetary price in the range of 1000 - 2000 Euro.
We plan to organize simple get-togethers to celebrate achievements of ZBT research school members. The idea is to celebrate the acceptance of papers, grant approvals and (MSc/PhD) degree completions by gathering and sharing some drinks and snacks.
Due to a limited budget and a small target group, we will do not plan to extensively organize research school specific workshops, coachings or other trainings. Instead, the research school coordinator will curate trainings offered through the Graduate Center Plus, the Research Academy Ruhr and potential other institutions whose services are open to ZBT employees. However, if there is a specific demand for acertain training to organized for the research school members alone, we might be able to make this happen.
