This workshop will give an overview of the fundamentals, motivations, and current best practices for accelerated stress tests (ASTs) in PEM water electrolyzers. We will discuss why ASTs are used, how they differ from accelerated life tests (ALTs), and the key degradation mechanisms they target, including catalyst, membrane, PTL, and CCM ageing. The session will present commonly applied AST protocols (voltage cycling, current cycling, OCV/hold tests, high-temperature stress and start-up/shut-down cycling), compare MEA-level and single-cell approaches, and highlight representative examples from recent literature.
